Death Sentence  by  Sheryl Browne I have been a fan of Sheryl Browne for quite a while and have really enjoyed her romance novels.  This book was a gritty step in another direction and had me terrified and mesmerized at the same time. Well researched, it tells the story of love, retribution and revenge. Matthew  Adams, a Detective Inspector believes his child died at the hands of his previous childhood bully turned pimp and prostitute killer. Patrick Sullivan, aforementioned pimp and killer blames Matthew for the death of his brother in a drug raid gone wrong.  Both men have scores to settle and Sullivan uses Matthew's wife to exact his revenge.   As is the norm for Sheryl Browne, her main characters are embroiled in much complication and votility and other personalities emerge to further develop the story line and add to the emotional content. This is such a heartwarming book, guaranteed to get nearly everyone into the Christmas Spirit! (There are always the odd few that won't go there in spite of miracles!) Star, who works at the library is able to help put some good luck back into peoples' lives very effortlessly, almost like waving a fairy wand! She becomes involved with the stories of some of the people who frequent the library that vary with age and type of problem they are experiencing.  In this book we get a glimpse at some very real and everyday issues that people of all ages are currently going through and struggling with. We can relate to them, either by personal knowledge or knowing someone with those problems.  Evan is unemployed and struggling to meet the Christmas expectations of his children.  Arianna is studious and struggling with her parent's divorce as she doesn't see much of her mother who is always working and her father who has moved away.   Mimi Finnegan always felt "less than" when comparing herself to her three glamourous sisters. She wasn't sure that being the one with the "prettiest feet" was the greatest accolade. Sometimes two people are just meant to be together and if it doesn't work out the first time, maybe it will the next! This seems to be the case for Trent and Reese although there are many questions to be asked of each other as to why ten years have gone by without discussion?  This is a warm, romantic and very sexy story about a couple and their extended family and is set in a beautiful location that the writers' bring alive for their readers. For the young Reese, moving to New York with her new husband was the wrong thing to do.  More comfortable on the island than in the big city, Reese felt lost and alone while her husband was chasing his ambitions and trying to make his family proud. Her inability to fit in and to try and hide her feelings from Trent resulted in early divorce and a return home for Reese while her husband carried on alone for ten years without ever fighting for her. This is the first book I have read by Melissa Foster involving the characters in this story. Obviously I have been missing out and have been so impressed by this story that  I need to go and read the rest!   I love the way two people are obviously so perfect for each other - Sky and Sawyer - however there is a great big "but" that threatens the future of their relationship. The chemistry is there for all to see and Sky doesn't hold back on that, however Sawyer's choice of career, or, way to earn good money, proves to be a controversial point and one that Sky is not sure she can handle. Although Sawyer has very good reason to do what he was doing, Sky wishes he would stick to music and poetry, things she is very comfortable with and what brought them together, asides from the obvious physical attraction and need for each other.
